23 February 2008

Under s146 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act), the Commonwealth Environment Minister may agree to undertake a strategic assessment on the impacts of actions under a policy, plan or program. s146 of the EPBC Act also provides for a public comment period for draft terms of reference for a strategic assessment and the subsequent draft strategic assessment report.

On 6 February 2008, the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts signed an agreement with the Western Australian Government to undertake a strategic assessment under the EPBC Act of the impacts of actions under a plan for a proposed common-user liquefied natural gas (LNG) Hub precinct in the West Kimberley Region.

A copy of the draft terms of reference for the strategic assessment is available for public comment at the link below. Public comments must be submitted to the Western Australian Department of Industry and Resources (DOIR) and will be accepted until close of business on 21 March 2008.

Please note that all public comments will be considered by the decision-maker, however, we cannot guarantee that all comments will be acknowledged or responded to.
